1. ISI Full Form: Indian Standards Institute

  • ISI stands for Indian Standards Institute.
  • The Indian Standards Institute was the national Standards Body of India which worked under the aegis of Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Government of India.

  • The ISI was established on 6 January 1947, set up under the Resolution of the Department of Industries and Supplies No. 1 Std.(4)/45, dated 3 September 1946. The ISI was registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1860.

  • ISI stands for Inter-Services Intelligence.
  • The Inter-Services Intelligence is the intelligence agency of Pakistan.

  • ISI was established on 01 January 1948 and is headquartered in Islamabad, Pakistan.

The Inter-Services Intelligence was formed over 70 years ago.

  • The Inter-Services Intelligence was set up in 1948 after the 1947-48 India-Pakistan war in which Pakistan suffered because of its intelligence gathering & sharing weaknesses and poor coordination between its Army, Air Force, Navy, Intelligence Bureau (IB) and Military Intelligence (MI).
  • Hence the ISI was designed to be operated by officers from the three main military services and to specialise in gathering, processing and analysing of national security information from around the world.
  • The ISI was the brainchild of the former British Indian Army Major General Sir Robert Cawthome, who was the then Deputy Chief of Staff of the Pakistan Army. He selected Colonel Shahid Hamid to create the intelligence agency.
